All Tied Up for October 21, 2016
This weekend, I’m going to Phoenix Fan Fest, which is a smaller version of their summer event, Phoenix Comicon. I’ll be cosplaying as Snow from “Once Upon a Time,” and my best friend will be Regina. I’m super excited!
Starting a new job has me completely fried, so I just want a two day block of low pressure “me time.” I want to put a little more time into the “Pokémon Sun and Moon” demo to keep building the hype for the full release next month. On the other hand, it’s been weeks since I had any time to play “Overwatch,” and I’ve heard great things about the Halloween event they’re doing. So do I want to mellow out with adorable creatures in a tropical setting, or gleefully launch rockets at total strangers while there’s a Jack-O-Lantern in the distance? Not a bad choice either way.
I’ve got another short road trip this weekend, so I’ll be finishing the audiobook of “Ready Player One” by Ernest Cline. I’m also reading “Negroland: A Memoir” by Margo Jefferson, which is so good and so worth reading. Then I’ll move on to “Iron Cast” by Destiny Soria, which has the most gorgeous cover I’ve seen in a long time.
I had a mini road trip this week, so I’ve been listening to “Hell Divers” by Nicholas Sansbury Smith with my co-pilot. In “Hell Divers,” humanity lives in airships, because the surface of Earth is toast. Hell divers are people who literally dive to the surface to salvage supplies before returning to the hive.
I’ve been spending some time trying to organize my house a bit and started “The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet” by Becky Chambers. I think my house will be organized very quickly at the rate that I want to listen to this book. Outside of a D&D session it’s been quiet on the gaming front…Although I did download “Mystic Messenger.”
I am reading “Lagoon” by Nnedi Okorafor, which is fantastic. I’m also planning to do some spoopy decorating for Halloween and generally enjoy the fall air (even if it is still 90 degrees).
Last weekend was possibly my favorite book club meeting ever—at least, so far. I’m still shivering over “Handmaid’s Tale,” though not reeling like I was initially. Now I’m fully engaged in the next book, “Lagoon” by Nnedi Okorafor. It’s outside my usual genre, but so good! As is my norm lately, I’m still up to my neck in wedding preparations and sewing. All that remains now is the hem of the bride’s gown and some table cloths. The end is in sight!
In other news, I’m working on banishing the brain weasels, I early voted (like the Nasty Woman that I am), and there are some potentially huge (possibly positive) changes at work—I’m going to let that play out for a while before I insert my own ego and desires (mostly because I’m not entirely sure what they are yet). In gaming news, my very old phone with a small capacity forced me to dump a crapton of my games so I could do simple things like check my mail. Big first-world sad. That’s gonna have to get fixed this coming week for sure.
