Amelia’s not-PAX Recap
I can recap, too!
I had a great time in Seattle. It was so nice to meet people I have talked to on Twitter—in some cases for years—in real life! Visiting with friends, talking and laughing over sushi, pizza and too-loud music was definitely the highlight of my time there. I wish I had a teleporter so I could see everyone more often. What the heck, engineers? Get on that.
I also went to OtterCon, membership of one person and a bunch of cute otters at the Seattle Aquarium and took some shitty phone pics I will now share with you.
In Portland, I stopped at Powell’s. Somehow, I managed to leave again. I’m not sure how. This is me squeeing in front of the wall of science fiction and horror authors:
The last thing I did that may be of interest to our readers is watch a bunch of “Titansgrave: The Ashes of Valkana,” Wil Wheaton’s RPG show. The setup of the show is accessible to experienced RPGers and newbies alike, so don’t feel like you have toget tabletop to watch. It’s actually a really good intro to tabletop gaming and a fun way to pass the time say, on a plane. Wheaton invited four friends to play, and they do a great job of demonstrating the mechanics of tabletop while keeping the pace of the show quick, fun and light. If you’re interested, check out the set-up episode here. I especially like the way he allows his players to narrate their particularly good kills, decisions or clever moments—I’ve never had a GM let me do that, and I think that’s a great way to engage the player with their character even more.
Next week is tabletop week on Can’t Talk Media, so look for all kinds of fun content from us on RPGs and boardgames!
